Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is skilled treatment through exercises and physical activities to help condition muscles and restore strength and movement.  Physical Therapy can also be necessary to maintain muscle strength and mobility.  Our Physical Therapy department is staffed by a full time masters level Physical Therapist, 2 Physical Therapist Assistants, and a Physical Therapy Aide.  Our ultimate goal is to ensure optimum function for mobility and independence. 


Services may include:

  • Gait Training
  • Ambulation, and Balance Training
  • Therapeutic Exercise
  • Range of Motion
  • Wheelchair Training
  • Transfer Training
  • Use of Assistive Devices (i.e. walker)
  • Massage
  • Ultrasound
  • Hot/cold packs


​​Our Physical Therapist is also actively involved in Fall Prevention, Seating and Positioning,  and Wound Care.   

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve optimum participation in their Activities of Daily Living.  Our Occupational Therapy department is staffed by a part-time Occupational Therapist (OTR) and a full time Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).    Services may address:

  • Range of Motion and Strength Training for Upper Extremities
  • Neuromuscular Re-education
  • Visual Perceptual Training
  • Activities of Daily Living
    • Bathing
    • Dressing
    • Self Feeding/Dining
    • Grooming
  • Adaptive Equipment Training  


Our Occupational Therapist also performs Room Assessments to ensure furniture is arranged for optimum safety and resident independence within their room. 

Speech Therapy/Audiology

​Speech Therapy is the treatment of disorders of speech and language and swallowing.    Speech Therapy improves ability to communicate as effectively as possible, and to swallow as safely as possible.   Teresian House is one of the few facilities that is staffed by a full time Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).    Goals may address:

  • Word-finding difficulties
  • Garbled speech
  • Poor breath support
  • Use of picture communication
  • Gestural Communication
  • Chewing and Swallowing


​Our SLP also serves as Director of the Rehabilitation Department and oversees OT, PT and Audiology. 

Audiology
Teresian House maintains a contract with St. Peter’s Hospital Audiology to provide in house services.   These services are coordinated and scheduled through our Speech Therapy Department and include:

  • Audiometric and Tympanometric Evaluation
  • Hearing Aid Fittings
  • Hearing Aid Repair
